Mariner News for Thursday, May 16, 2019
Mariner Family: as many of you know students, parents, alumni and chaperones are heading to the Philippines on May 26th for our 8th Philippines Service Immersion Program outreach. One of our goals is to fill 150 duffel bags (which will be bought there) with items for elementary and middle school kids. There are 4 WAYS to contribute:
1. SCHOOL SUPPLIES: pencils; pens; erasers; crayons; used calculators; sticky notes; school gadgets (NO PAPER PLEASE)
2. TOILETRIES: soap; toothpaste; toothbrushes; shampoo; Lots of FLOSS; face towels (NO LARGE TOWELS or TISSUES) or any other toiletries
3. CLOTHING: all light clothing like t-shirts; shorts; hankies; hats; bandanas; school uniforms
4. PULUTAN (snacks): dried fruits; snacks (remember we are shipping this overseas)
ANY items just bring to my office in Garin and place in the BALIKBAYAN BOXES outside. Our drive will end on the last day of school May 23rd. SALAMAT PO!

LIBRARY & LEARNING COMMONS
The Library and Learning Commons will be closed the following times for AP Testing this week:

Rutgers University–New Brunswick is excited to announce an opportunity for students interested in engineering. The Rutgers School of Engineering is offering the chance for students to participate in a new Pre-Engineering Summer Academy to develop their knowledge and skills through real-world field experiences.
This intensive one-week certificate program will introduce students to a variety of engineering areas including:
Eligible students must:
- Be between the ages of 16-18
- Have prior coursework in pre-calculus (recommended)
- Submit anonline application by May 18!

HAYWARD YOUTH COMMISSION
Join the Hayward Youth Commission to advise the City Council, the Hayward Area Recreation and Park District and the Hayward Unified School District about issues that affect young people in the community. Looking forward to a night full of food and activities with your classmates? If so, you definitely won’t want to miss your Grad Night on May 23. Experience the beautiful sights of the bay, indulge in our gourmet pasta and taco bar, enjoy some karaoke or friendly casino games, and most importantly cherish this final night with your classmates before graduation.
Tickets are available for $120 online in the Mariner Mall. Transportation from Moreau will be provided, so be sure to be at school on May 23 by 6 PM.
SENIOR BOX SOCIAL
Seniors: The Senior Box Social is Friday, May 17 from 7-10pm. If you did not bring food, decorate and dress up in theme freshman year, choose a group of friends, an awesome theme, and bring food to set up for the evening at 6pm. A BBQ will be provided for your use. If it’s your turn to show up to eat and dance, bring $10 and be there at 7pm. Enjoy one more event with the class of 2019! See Ms. McGowan if you have questions.
SENIORS AND COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIPS
Interested in Marketing or communications? American Marketing Association San Francisco is offering a $2500 scholarship to a college bound senior. The scholarship application form can be found here. Attention Sophomore Historians: Are you registered to take AP US History next year? If so, there is a mandatory meeting in room D16 after school this Friday, May 17th. The meeting will begin at 2:45pm. If you can’t make it you need to email Ms. Ledford.
COLLEGE TOUR 2020
Freshman, sophomores, and parents:
The Counseling Department is excited to offer an opportunity to visit the Research Triangle and Washington D.C. on a college tour during the Spring of 2020! We are working with EF Tours who will be coordinating all travel arrangements for this trip, including: all transportation, hotel, meals, security, and college visits. Please check out the attached flyer with more information. This trip will happen during Spring break 2020; Students will be back in time for Easter with their families.

I’ll be hosting a lunch time meeting for students on May 14 during both lunches. Students: Pizza will be provided; just sign up in Naviance Student, under college visits. For parents (and students who can’t make the lunch) I’ll be hosting a meeting in the library at 6:30pm that night to discuss a tentative schedule.
Remember: May 14 at 6:30pm in the library for parents and students.
