Over the summer, Moreau Catholic created an official varsity club esports team, joining more than 100 high schools throughout California to compete statewide in this fast-growing digital sport. The school partnered with PlayVS, the official partner of NFHS and CIF, to provide officially sanctioned high school competitions and state championships.
The new competitive program provides students with a new source for school spirit and pride in their own campus community. The club has over 75 students participating by competing in games, creating content, and learning more about the eSport industry. This new venture will not only provide students with a sports team that mirrors their interests, but it also will support those who are interested in employment opportunities in the fast-growing field. The club is providing an opportunity for students to be together during a time where we have to be distant.
The League of Legends Varsity team started competition a few weeks ago and the team won their first matches. They are currently ranked 24 out of 107 California teams participating in the Fall season. Rocket League will begin competition within the next few weeks. We are so excited for this new venture and can’t wait to see how the teams do this season!
