Hello! My name is Brendan Nugent, class of 2011, and an alumnus of the Mariner Football Program. After graduating from Moreau Catholic I attended Chabot College but ultimately decided to join the United States Army as an Infantryman in 2014. I served in the 1st Cavalry Division for 4 years as an Active Duty Soldier and was Honorably Discharged in 2018 as a Sergeant. Upon discharge I reclassified to an Intelligence Analyst and chose to continue my service as a soldier in the Army Reserve in the state of Texas. I completed a short period of service and moved from Texas to California at the end of 2019 to pursue my education here. I am currently attending Las Positas Community College for an AS in Animal Science and Business Management with the goal to transfer to UC Davis and further my education there. I live in Dublin with my fiance Erika and our seven year old son John.
I have played football for over ten years and also played rugby at the U-19 level for the Hayward Griffins. I have been a student of the game for my entire life and bring a wealth of knowledge and motivation to the table. I am excited for this upcoming season to return to a sense of normalcy for our athletes and get back to doing what we all love.
My words of encouragement to the students and athletes are to stay motivated. This is a time period that no one has ever dealt with before and we have to take things in stride. We have to be adaptable and be prepared as a program to conquer these tasks and challenges as they come up. Don’t ever be afraid to reach out if you need help, we are a team!
