Moreau Catholic High School is pleased to announce the appointment of Elizabeth Guneratne, Ed.D., as the school’s permanent Principal, effective December 1, 2018. Dr. Guneratne has been serving as the school’s Interim Principal since July 1, 2018.
“The Principal’s Search Advisory Committee and I are thrilled and blessed that Liz will remain as our Principal, and continue to build upon the work she and our team have started this school year. Her passion for Holy Cross education at Moreau Catholic, along with her inclusive leadership style and compassionate care for our students is evident to all on our campus,” said Moreau Catholic High School President Terry Lee.
Earlier this year, Dr. Guneratne served as the project lead and diocesan liaison for Lumen Christi Academies, the new Catholic schools’ network in the Diocese of Oakland. She also served as a faculty member in the Educational Leadership Department at Santa Clara University and was the Director of Catholic School Partnerships.
“I continue to be inspired by our Mariner family, and I look forward to leveraging our innovative programs and Holy Cross traditions to promote outstanding achievement for all students,” Dr. Guneratne said.
Before joining the faculty at Santa Clara University, Dr. Guneratne served for four years as an Associate Superintendent and WCEA/WASC accreditation commissioner for the secondary and elementary schools in the Diocese of Oakland. She also has served as a high school teacher, special needs director, and elementary school principal.
Dr. Guneratne earned her B.A. degree in English and Sociology at the University of Texas at Austin. She has a Master’s Degree from the University of San Francisco, and earned her Doctorate in the Leadership and Educational Equity Program at the University of California, Berkeley.
